When my husband, Jim, and I moved from southern NH to northern NH (like really way "up nawth") in the summer of 2000 we thought we were just "getting away from it all". Little did we realize we would become farmers! (Although I did grow up on a farm.) It all started with trying to manage the land. Here in the north country we grow good trees - lots of them. We couldn't keep ahead of it and were quickly losing our view. Thus was born the idea of having animals manage the land for us. We got a few sheep and pigs, added some goats, chickens for fly control, a dog to guard them - well you get the picture. Pretty soon folks began asking if we could raise a pig for them, or if they could buy some lamb, eggs or goat milk. So here we are - farmers! And lovin' every minute of it.
Here are some of the critters at American Way Farm
Saanen, Nubian and Boer goats for both milk and meat.
Pasture raised pigs.
Pastured ducks, turkeys and chickens, both broilers and egg layers. Very friendly birds indeed. Pasture raised grandchildren too.
Talon, 4 yr. old Gypsy Cob gelding
Our livestock are guarded by Great Pyrenees. These wonderful dogs are on duty 24/7 and do a fantastic job!
Roxie, an English Shepherd, is my right hand gal, top farm hand and best bud.
Jack is Roxie's half brother, and equally adept at helping with the chores around the farm. He is one of the most snuggly and loving dogs I've ever met, preferring to lay ON your feet rather than by them.
